Project
GNSS-based area-cover validation for whole-tree logging equipment
A Forest Action Lab collaboration evaluating GNSS-based methods for estimating daily area covered by ground-based whole-tree logging equipment.
This project evaluates how GNSS recording frequency and post-processing choices affect estimates of daily area covered by ground-based whole-tree logging equipment.
The analysis compares machine-track-based estimates against field-derived validation data from multiple British Columbia logging operations, with attention to spatial error, operational scale, and the cost of collecting high-frequency GNSS data.
The work supports better digital monitoring of forest operations by connecting machine positioning data, UAV photogrammetry, stand and site information, and productivity analysis.
