Project
roads R package and paper
An R package and Landscape Ecology paper on automated forest road projection methods for forest-change and wildlife-relevant modelling workflows.
The roads R package provides iterative least-cost-path and minimum-spanning-tree methods for projecting forest road networks.
The package connects target locations to existing road networks using user-supplied cost rasters and weighting functions, including options that penalize steep grades. The methods are intended for integration into R workflows and forest-change modelling frameworks over multiple time steps.
The related Landscape Ecology paper develops and assesses automated forest road projection methods using performance metrics relevant for wildlife, with public paper, software, and data links available for reuse.
